Self-Care with Joanne Austen Brown

How do you balance your work and home life?

That can be hard. I moved last year, and work went out the window for about 8 months. I didn’t like it.

I am still unpacking and sort through the house. But I do 3 days a week of writing. I have to or I will go crazy.

But I am getting back to normal now. I will write most of the time, but any family things come first.

Writing is now my job. I was a practice manager of a law firm but now I write full time.

What are some challenges you’ve faced recently?

Moving and unpacking has been a major thing.

Research can also be a challenge. But I do like researching the places and things and history in my novels.

Sometimes it is finding time when family pressures lean in.

What rejuvenates you?

Taking time out to have a walk or to have a soak in the bath.

I also like to get to bed early to read.

Having friends over for dinner or a cuppa also helps.

What makes you laugh?

My husband. He always knows how to make me laugh.

My kitties when they are in a mood and my grand daughters when they think I am not looking.

The War Rings

Could Marta revisit the tragedy befallen her family? Because telling them meant she would be reliving it all over again.

Marta has brought up the three children in Britain, but now she must tell them what happened to their parents. Can she do it?  Alida and Dieter's love story is so beautiful despite what was happening in Germany. But Marta also lost her parents and other sister, leaving her the sole survivor in her family. They were all victims of the deadly Nazis as were thousands of people all over Europe.

Were they ready for the truth?
