Style in the Tropics with Ciara Knight

Simple Style — Tropics Edition

I’m probably not the person to ask for contouring tips or runway trends. These days, I live on a boat in the tropics, and my beauty routine reflects that beautifully simple lifestyle.

Makeup? Not really.
It’s sunscreen (non-negotiable under this sun!) and a swipe of lip gloss. That’s it. Salt air and sunshine tend to do their own thing anyway.

Hair?
Usually pulled up, twisted into a messy bun, or tucked into a braid to keep it from whipping across my face while we’re underway. Practical can still be pretty.

Fashion?
I wouldn’t call myself a fashion connoisseur, but I do love a good sundress. There’s something about slipping one on before heading ashore that feels effortless and feminine. Add a pair of cute sandals, and I’m ready for dinner by the marina or wandering a new island town.

For me, style isn’t about trends — it’s about feeling comfortable in the season of life you’re in. Right now, that season involves sun, saltwater, and stories.

And honestly? That’s more than enough for me. :)

    1. It is full of high highs and low lows. It keeps me guessing. :)

  4. Who wouldn't want to live on a boat, wearing comfortable clothes while writing romance books? Seriously. You're living the dream I had in my younger days. And good for you!

    1. I wish it was always that way, and yes, I am blessed to have this opportunity. I wouldn't have said that a few hours ago. I was at the helm on night watch as six foot rollers came in one direction and wind and current in another direction causing a confused sea state. The boat rolled so much it woke my husband and sent my coffee across the pilot house. We are steady enough now that at least I can be on my computer while at watch. haha.

    1. It's amazing on days that are nice and terrifying when the weather is bad, like in the 42 knot blow we just made it through at anchor last week. :) Anything in life worth earning takes hard work.

    1. I completely agree. Despite my own father suffering from PTSD and survivors guilt from Vietnam, working at the VA hospital in Miami during college really opened my eyes to the continuing struggles of our men and women returning home.

  8. Sunscreen is a must for me as well. Living on a boat sounds wonderful. There's nothing better than living the ocean life. I'm living at the island at the moment. It's very expensive with the rent and all, but at the moment I really would not want to be anywhere else.
