It’s getting to that time again. The
time where I feel like a change and, once again, my hair is the medium through
which I’m going to obtain this life altering, sense-of-self revamp. Of course,
as this happens at least once a year, I’m fairly familiar with the fact that a
new haircut in all likelihood won’t actually achieve these things. But still.
Every year, I feel the same way.
I’m really lucky with my hair. It
grows fast. Most people assume that
my hair is thick, but actually it’s really fine, there’s just a ridiculous
amount of it. Every time I book an appointment at the hairdressers, I tell them
I’ll need two slots. Mostly they don’t believe me – and then they realise their
mistake! (Especially when their next client is left waiting! Eek!)
I’ve done ‘the big chop’ about four
times now. Usually I wait
until my hair is at my elbows by which time my sister
will have already mercilessly mocked me and then get it hacked back to chin
length. On ‘Wear Pink to Work’ day to
help raise awareness for Breast Cancer, I dyed my long hair magenta. It was
supposed to wash out in 6 weeks, but about 6 months later I had surprisingly
‘on trend’ pink streaks left at the ends. I’ve had short hair, blond hair, and
I’ve tried a fringe at least three times even though I know it never looks how
I want it to!
But whether it’s the fringe, length or
colour – I always find it funny how we put so much of our identities into our
hair. It’s an expression of who we are, or on more than one occasion, who we
wish to be. Confident, sexy, sassy, bright, stylish, controversial perhaps? My
advice is to go for it. Have that
haircut, go for that outrageous colour. Speak to your hairdresser, find one who
is as excited as you are, but also honest.
Every time I ask for a fringe (or
bangs for readers in the States!) I’m always warned that I have a cowslick. It
will never sit on my forehead the way it does for other people, but that
doesn’t mean I can’t have one – it just means it might take some extra styling.
And if I’m willing to put in the work, then I can do it. It used to put me off,
because I’m most often a wash and leave girl. I appreciate I’m lucky enough to
be able to do that and quite often that dictates the style I want to get. But
this time, I think I might be ready. And if it’s a disaster?
There’s always
hair pins and scarfs!
So yes, feel that excitement, enjoy
it, and enjoy your fabulous ‘new do’! Wear it with pride and satisfaction! Now
I’m curious, what’s the best hair cut you ever had and why?

Hi Pippa,
ReplyDeleteI used to have bangs before too. I like new hair cuts when I decide on a change in my lifestyle.
This book looks good too!
Hi Janet, Mine grew out so quickly and I never got them put back in. But I've just decided on the 'big cut' which will happen in a few weeks. I hope you enjoy the book! Best wishes.
DeleteI love my fringe! You have gorgeous hair.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lady Fi! It'll be a little shorter the next time I post a picture :) Best wishes.
DeleteI'm with you! I'm having it coloured next month.
ReplyDeleteI've had a turquoise swath for a year. I had one woman tell me, "You're not too old for that!" which has haunted me. (I'm nearly 62.) I have to be positive. Wonderful post. Thanks for visiting.
Gah, don't let people's opinions haunt you Jenn! Go for what you want to see and enjoy with your hair! Good luck with the dye next month! Best wishes.
DeleteNice to learn more about Pippa and the book sounds good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine! I hope you enjoy it. Best wishes.
DeleteIf your hair is long you don't need bangs. If it's short you still don't because you have a great forehead. Lucky you.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and weekend. ❤
Ahhh, thank you Sandee. I hope you have a great weekend too! Best wishes.
DeleteMy hair had always been long except for that time when I was 6 and my dad cut it off as a surprise for my mom. lol My hair is long enough for me to sit on right now. I usually just flip my hair over my head and trim it every 6 months. I haven't had a real hair cut in 40 years.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderfully long hair do! I find that with this length, the weight is the biggest frustration. Still, with my hair appointment booked for next week, I'm sure it will be a lot lighter!
DeleteI totally understand that need for hair changes! I have gone as crazy as getting a pixie cut but found it was too much maintenance. I also like to wash and go type too so a bob has always been my favorite option.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I've always been tempted by a pixie cut, but I'm with you on the low maintenance. I might be trying a bob very soon!
Deletehealthy hair with beautiful face.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Thank you Tanza. I hope you had a lovely week. Best wishes.
Deleteso lovely hair!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy! Best wishes.
DeleteProbably the best hair cut I've ever had is the one that you can see in my profile picture. The stylist did it perfectly. You have beautiful hair!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely hair cut in your profile pic! I think finding a good hair dresser is hard, but very much worth it. Have a lovely week.
Deletevery nice my dear
ReplyDeletenew review on my blog Maybelline make-up fall 2018
have a nice day
Thank you! I will have to check out your blog. I hope you have a great week!
DeleteI have fine hair, but it is thin. I definitely only need one hair slot. I go through phases with long hair and then I chop it too. Chopping it always feels so refreshing. :) Good luck with the fringe/bangs.
ReplyDelete~Jess
Thanks Jess! I'm toying with the chop or the bangs at the moment. I still have four days to decide though! Who knows what I might actually end up with! Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteI love these long blond locks hairstyle the most. Really beautiful!
